Cover for the book: The Spirit Level Why Greater Equality Makes Societies Stronger

Read: The Spirit Level: Why Greater Equality Makes Societies Stronger

Introduction A fellow progressive friend of mine recommended that I read The Spirit Level: Why Greater Equality Makes Societies Stronger by Richard Wilkinson, Kate Picket because it dealt with inequality and how it explains most of our societal problems which sounded very interesting. After tearing through it over the last day or so I just […]

Types of Advanced Civilizations (Futurism)

The Kardashev Scale of Civilizations

I am going to introduce you to an interesting idea proposed by Kardashev called the Kardashev Scale. Here is a quote from science fiction and fantasy writer Veronica Sicoe which has a great introduction to this concept:

In 1964, Russian astrophysicist Nikolai Kardashev figured that civilizations can be categorized by the total amount of energy available to them. He defined three levels of civilizations based on their capacity to harness and use power. These have since been expanded by another four (in light of the increasingly wild speculations spawned by marrying mathematics and theoretical physics).

The Kardashev Scale, as it is called, now lists 7 levels of civilizations based on their power consumption, and implicitly on their technological advancement and extension.

Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs (8 levels)

Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs (MHoN) and the Biopsychosocial model in Psychology (BPS)

In several of my more technical posts that talk about politics, religion, economics, etc I talk about Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs (MHoN) and about Biopsychosocial (BPS) issues so I would like to take a moment to create a post on this to collect throughts, images, and links on these important topics so I can refer people to it and so they can learn about this which can greatly increase people’s understanding of many parts of our human experience as well as how our world works. And, honestly, I though I already had a post on this, soooo…

Continuum of Socialism

The Continuum of Socialism, an Explanation

I am writing this post to help people understand:

* why there is so much confusion and such a strong aversion to the word Socialism today

* why it is very, very misplaced

* how we need to reframe the socialism conversation.

Part of these problems are due to:

* our massively broken education system
* over a hundred years of governmental propaganda and continuously stoked fears

There are technical definitions and then there is the more colloquial usage. I will cover both in this article just for completeness and to help relieve some of the confusion.

Sea of Vote Buttons

Why you need to vote in EVERY… Single… Election!

Disillusioned with our corrupt government and broken electoral system? Are politics dirty, unconscionable, horrific, and you cannot even stand the thought of watching another candidacy ad or debate? Does the thought of politics make your stomach turn? When a politician speaks do you always expect to see their horribly forked and reptilian tongue? Do you think that politicians don’t really care and don’t represent you? Feel like your vote does not matter… at all!?!

Believe me, I get it. I did not vote for many years and I did not care at all about politics because of thoughts like those… until my 30’s when I really started to care about one issue in particular which sparked a raging fire in me that has not subsided to this day.

Continuum of Capitalism (Oligarchy vs Communism vs Socialism)

Continuum of Capitalism, an Explanation

This post will discuss my set of Continuum of Capitalism infographics which were added to my post: The Cancer of Capitalism and Its Antidote. I want to explain this idea more because, in that post, I just post these two graphics and do not explain it or do I explain my ideas on economic systems at all. Keep in mind, that this post is speaking in very simplified and very broad and sweeping terms.

If you have NOT read my Cancer of Capitalism post from above, then please go read it NOW!!
